The most recent information regarding the number of people living in Canada with disabilities from Statistics Canada dates back to 2006. 2011 was a Census year but those results have yet to be released.
According to the 2006 summary tables concerning persons with disabilities (categorized by age group and sex):
Total Number:
- The total number of all people living in Canada with a disability was 4, 417, 870
- This was equal to 14.3% of the total population
- Of this number, 2,024,700Â were males at 13.4% of the male population
- 2,393,180 were females, at 15.2 % of the female population
Total Number of Persons with Disabilities, age 15 and Over:
- The total number of people ages 15-64 living with a disability: 4,215,536 or 16.6% of that population
- Of this number, there were 1,895,480 males (15.4%)
- 2,320,040 were females (17.7%)
Taking a closer look at these numbers:
- The number of people living with a disability aged 15-24: 195, 500 (4.7%) with 100, 940 males and 94, 560 females
- In the age range of 25-44, 696,530 (8.0%) of the population were said to be disabled, with 326, 460 males and 370, 070 females
- In the age range of 45-64, 1,565, 910 (18.3%) of the population were said to be disabled, with 724,130 males and 841,780 females
- In the age range of 65 and over, the total number of people living with a disability was said to be 1,757,590 (43.4%), with 743,960 males and 1,013,630 females
